The Mikve of Gelderland
Nijmegen is both the oldest city in the Netherlands and home to the oldest Jewish community, where Jews have lived throughout the ages. Nijmegen is located on the German border in the east of the country. The Jewish community brings Jews together in this region by organizing numerous activities, kids programs, Shabbat/Holiday services, meals, parties and much more.
A couple of hundred Jewish families live in the Nijmegen area and in the surrounding Gelderland region. The Nijmegen Jewish community is one of the most active Jewish communities within the region of Gelderland, with a local Rabbi and Rebbetzin.
Over the years, multiple local families and travelers have reached out to inquire about using a Mikve, but there was none.
A Mikve connects each woman and her family to their innate spirituality, bringing purity and blessings to themselves and those around them. A new Mikve in the Gelderland region would immediately be utilized by local families and draw many more to this vital Mitzvah.

Het Gelderlandse Mikwe
Nijmegen is de oudste stad van Nederland, waar door de eeuwen heen joodse mensen hebben gewoond. Nijmegen ligt aan de Duitse grens in het oosten van het land.
De joodse gemeente Nijmegen probeert alle joden in deze regio bij elkaar te brengen en te inspireren. O.a door het organiseren van activiteiten, kinderprogramma’s, Sjabbatot, feestdagen en nog veel meer.
In de regio van Nijmegen wonen enkele honderd joodse gezinnen. Voor de Nijmeegse joodse gemeenschap zetten een rabbijn en rebbetzin zich in voor een van de meest actieve joodse gemeenschappen in de regio.
Vanaf Nijmegen is het dichtstbijzijnde mikwe – een zogenaamd ritueel bad - een anderhalf uur rijden; namelijk de mikwes in Amsterdam, Den Haag of Antwerpen.
Helaas heeft men verschillende keren vrouwen die naar het Mikwe wilden moeten teleurstellen. Heel jammer want zonder mikwe kunnen vrouwen niet in aanraking komen met deze zo belangrijke mitzva voor de joodse vrouw, namelijk spiritualiteit, heiligheid en zegen binnen het gezin te brengen en te waarborgen.
